What is Madrona?

Madrona is an open source museum collections management system written for the community, by the community. Featuring an intuitive design and ground breaking media and internet integration, Madrona creates a whole new standard for collection management. Whether you’re a two member team at a community museum or a national repository for artefacts, Madrona can handle your collections with ease.

Madrona comes in two versions: a free (open source) community version and an even more powerful pro version. Madrona Community was designed for smaller museums and galleries with small budgets but a need for excellence in collections management software. Madrona Pro will give larger museums an ideal system to catalogue and manage extensive collections with ease, including a multitude of additional graphics and editing features to simplify and streamline collections management.

What makes Madrona stand out from the crowd? It’s an innovative, adaptable system that includes features unavailable in other collections management systems.

  • Madrona makes your life easy with integration with Web 2.0 and social media sites like Flickr and Google Maps
  • Madrona brings order to your collection, using data fields and code that can be altered to suit your individual collection, allowing you the ultimate in customization, and a program that will work with the specificities of your collections
  • Madrona offers features you can grow into, including image editing and manipulation ability from within its web based program
  • Madrona offers improved work flow with a calendar system, report and form creation and differing user levels

Created with the help of extensive feedback from museums and galleries, Madrona works by tapping into user knowledge. Madrona was created with help from museum professionals, beta testers with years of experience in the field and a dedicated team at Zero One Design. But the research doesn’t stop when Madrona goes live on November 30, 2009. An advisory council will continue to provide feedback and input for future versions of the program, allowing for greatest user ease and program responsiveness. Madrona will grow as your collection grows, embracing new technology and keeping pace with today’s collection and archive demands.
